A Quick Review of Sentence Types
A simple sentence has only one subject-verb combination and expresses one complete thought. A compound sentence is made up of two or more complete thoughts.
You can combine two simple sentences into one compound sentence by using a comma and a joining word. Three of the joining words most often used are and, but, and so.
The joining word should show the logical connection between your ideas.

- Use the word but if you mean "however."
