(2) What is less known—and more bizarre—is that animals were also involved during this notorious period of history. (4) Two dogs were included on the list of accused Salem witches, while other animals were killed on the spot after being identified by suspicious townspeople. (5) Animals were also identified as victims during this strange time. (6) Creatures that became sick or injured or that died without any apparent cause were thought to have been innocent targets of witchcraft.
