Question
A. Feeling Blue
At some point or another, every one of us has gotten up in the morning feeling a lot of (1). Difficulties at school or problems at home or with a friend can make us feel down. Studies show that these bad moods can make a real difference in how we feel about ourselves and our lives. For example, bad moods often lead to or (2) sad, gloomy thoughts. We may get down on ourselves and think we’re not worth much. Thinking that life will always be this way, we may decide that nothing in the world can possibly (3) us or make us feel better. These beliefs are false, but they seem true at the time. Also, when we are in a bad mood, even a good (4)—like a delicious meal or a good time with friends—usually isn’t enough to cancel the mood and raise our spirits. The only bright spot about bad moods is this fact: They always pass.
